Kindsknopf was founded in Austria. The company is a Supporting Sponsor for The Wrap Show 2017. In the following interview, owner Verena Tschugguel shares more about Kindsknopf.

How did Kindsknopf come to be? What drew you to the world of wraps initially?

After the birth of my first daughter, I had the need for closeness and intense contact with my child. I did not want her out of my hands. And so my daughter, Emma, used my first sling. I enjoyed it so much, having her that close to my body and being able to hear her consistent breathing, to kiss her tender fluff and to smell her wonderful aroma. As my second child, Mavie, saw the light of day, it was again the sling that helped me to familiarise Emma with the new situation of being an older sister. While playing with her, I was able to carry my newborn securely and comfortably. Later on, my younger one went to my back so I could take Emma on my lap in order to read books with her or to snuggle her.

Retrospectively, I am sure that the contact to my children became as intense and strong as it did because the sling gave me love and freedom at the same time. Finally I began to sew my own slings, but every time I touched them, I was missing something special. For a long time, I was looking for extraordinary slings with beautiful design and made out of heavy and cosy fabric. Unsuccessful [in my search], I decided to weave my own cloths. And from that moment on, the story of Kindsknopf began.

What inspires you in your work?

Definitely my two children. But also to observe how the Kindsknopf community is constantly growing and how fortunate mothers are when they achieve new freedom with the Kindsknopf slings.

Why do you think wraps are so important for parents and children?

First of all, because the magic and the feeling of security can be integrated into daily routine. The hands stay free, which gives back freedom to the parents.

What is your favourite part about using woven wraps personally?

My favorite idea is to combine practical outcome with a fashionable aspect. My products are made out of timeless designs and premium, tightly controlled materials that are woven in Austria. The cotton is obtained from prestigious manufacturers in the EU, include no pollutants and use colors resistant to saliva.

How do you encourage new parents who are interested but hesitant to try wrapping?

I love to encourage parents to go back to the origin and to admit [that they want] closeness with their baby and simultaneously gain back freedom.

Where do you see Kindsknopf in five years? Ten Years?

I see Kindsknopf growing further. We have a lot of new ideas and plan to launch new collections.

What experience do you hope for Kindsknopf customers?

As I mentioned before, I want my customers to experience this wonderful and magic feeling of having their newborns as close as possible to their body and being able to use their hands to accomplish everyday life at the same time.

Is there anything new about Kindsknopf of its products that you would like to share?

At the moment, we are planing a lot of new activities for the future. Among other things, we plan to develop a kids’ collection and furniture out of our special woven cloths.
